Upper Animas Mountain trails closed for wildlife December 1 to July 31st. Lower Animas Mountain trails (from Aquila to the south) are closed from December 1 to April 15. Watch out for bikers.

Description

Upper Merve climbs steadily through stands of ponderosa pine and scrub. It is now primarily a downhill directional mountain bike trail, after the upper section was rerouted and rebuilt into a swoopy flow trail. About halfway down, the berms and rollers end and the trail reverts to its old, rutted, fall line character (at least, as of July 2024).
