Overview

Enjoyable hike with pretty good elevation. Main up/down is in the first half.

Description

Start out at Eagle Valley Trailhead (any vehicle can make it here). Go through the slate rock canyon then a right onto Eagle Road rather than going up Spikes. This is the major elevation gain. This road connects to Red Rocks/Nighthorse Trail at the top.

Enjoy the views of the San Juans to the south from here and then bang a left onto Red Rocks/Nighthorse Trail. This trail provides great views of Grand Mesa and the Gunnison Canyon. At Bobcat trailhead go down Bobcat Road to connect with Sidewinder Trail as a left had turn. Take this back to Eagle Valley Trail.
