Dogs Leashed
Description
This trail begins with a wide concrete surface at the intersection of Runnels and Elysian and then runs underneath the 16 lanes (more or less) of Interstate 69. There is a connection to the North Bank of Buffalo Bayou Hike & Bike trail in the shade of the elevated freeway.
Emerging back into the sunshine, the trail passes under the Burlington Northern tracks before tucking under S. Jensen Dr. The Buffalo Bayou Canoe Launch is a nice place to stop and take a break in this segment.
To this point the trail has been flat, but the abandoned concrete silos at N. Nagle mark the beginning of elevation changes in terms of feet, not the usual inches of the Houston area.
A short wooden bridge marks the beginning a 1/6-mile gravel segment that is rutted in a few places. The wide concrete surface picks up again just short of Foley St. and ends after passing under Hirsch Road to arrive at Tony Marron Park where the trail surface is asphalt. At the east side of the park there is a 1/10-mile segment of natural surface beginning at an opening in the fence. At the other end there is another fence opening where the concrete surface picks up again before ending at the Lockwood Drive turnaround.
The unimproved segments of this trail will be paved in the future.
