Need to Know
Road to Goodwin Lake Trailhead requires a high clearance vehicle and/or four-wheel drive.
Description
Beware that getting to the Goodwin Lake Trailhead will likely take a four-wheel drive vehicle and some extra time as the road is in rough condition.
At the Goodwin Lake Trailhead, the trail will start by heading uphill as you wrap around eventually heading south towards the Gros Ventre Wilderness. Follow the meandering trail towards Goodwin Lake enjoying the gradual grade and well-groomed trail. As you near the lake there is a crossing near the outlet of the lake and is a good spot for filtering water.
Continue south towards the Flat Creek area until you hit the Jackson Peak, Flat Creek intersection. The Jackson Peak trail begins to climb fairly rapidly and wraps around eventually heading towards the north. Continue on the trail, climbing and soaking in the spectacular views to the south of Cache Peak and the Cache Creek basin. The final climb to Jackson Peak turns into a bit of a rock scramble, but is very doable, even for dogs.
Enjoy the 360 views from atop Jackson Peak, soaking in the views of the Tetons as well as the Gros Ventre Wilderness and Bridger-Teton National Forest.
