Heads south from the Pacific Crest Trail and ascend for a quarter mile to the highest point on this trail. Once at the top, you get rewarded with a magnificent vista of Lake of the Woods and the alpine landscape beyond. The trail descends somewhat steeply for half a mile to the northern shore of the lake and follows its eastern outline passing by several premier camp sites.

At 1.5 miles, continue on south past the lake and descend further following the outlet stream. You leave the trees after a quarter mile and hike across open rocky terrain. The trail is mostly obvious and follows several usually dry creek beds down to Ropi Lake.
