Need to Know
To find the trailhead, drive east from Grangeville on Mount Idaho Grade to State Highway 14. Turn right, toward Elk City. Turn left and drive up Peasley Creek Road to it's end at Forest Road 648 (Lower Cougar Road), and turn right. Drive until you reach the obvious four way junction with Lower Cougar Road, Forest Road 1876, And Forest Road 1861. The trail starts from here and is marked by a sign.
Description
From its terminus at Forest Road 648 (Lower Cougar Road), the trail begins climbing gently up the heavily forested crest of Silver Ridge. Soon after the beginning of the trail you reach the junction with Reed Mountain Trail #477, which descends toward silver creek to the east.
About 0.3 miles past this junction the trail reaches Forest Road 1876G (Hi Ho Silver Road). The trail turns right and follows the road for about a quarter mile, passing through a gate along the way. There are occasional signs indicating where the trail follows the road, as well as where it leaves the road, turning sharply to the left and continuing to climb up the ridge.
After another 0.9 miles the trail crosses Forest Road 1876F (Silver Peasley Road). After this the trail continues to climb up the ridge through beautiful forests of Grand Fir, changing to Lodgepole Pine as the trail swings toward the west side of the ridge. After two more miles the trail drops down and begins to follow Forest Road 1853 (Upper Peasley Road), which it follows for about 0.3 miles before turning slightly to the right and following another, unnamed road for about 0.4 miles.
Soon after this the trail enters an old burn area. Half a mile after leaving the unnamed track, the trail reaches it's junction with Silver Creek Head Trail #476. The trail continues through the old burn area and soon begins to drop down to Forest Road 244 (Lightning Creek Road), and ends at a gravel parking area on the side of the road.
