Description

This trail is the main trail that runs through the Forest Cathedral Natural Area in Cook Forest State Park. It is blazed with a blue and yellow rectangle. The trail begins branching off of the Toms Run Trail and climbs steadily as it enters into the old-growth. As it continues the passive management of the forest almost makes it feel as though you are entering into the forest moon of Endor.

As it climbs it passes junctions with various other trails through this area. Once the trail levels off these are some wonderful opportunities to view the treetops of the enormous trees. The trail then turns to the left and drops steeply. Here, there are exceptional views as the grade of the trail allows you to see full trees right in front of you.

Eventually, the trail flattens out and turns to the right. The rest of the trail is a slight and scenic descent. On the right, as the trail nears its terminus, there are both a memorial fountain and a plaque designating this area a National Natural Landmark. The trail then ends in the parking lot for the Log Cabin Inn Environmental Education Center.
