Need to Know
No parking at either trailhead. A small parking area can be found near the Briar Chapel dog park which has a short trail that connects to
Woods Run Trail. Cross the bridge to your left and you can access Pokeberry Trail from there.
Description
This trail can be accessed from either the
Copperhead Trail near Briar Chapel Parkway or from the bridge that crosses Pokeberry Creek to the south. Terrain is very rocky and uneven, with many large rocks and exposed roots. It's a popular trail for mountain bikers and trail runners.
Starting from the south, the trail winds through a wooded area and runs parallel to Pokeberry Creek for most of the hike. Halfway through, there are some short spurs that allow closer access to the area where the creek opens up, providing great spots for viewing birds and turtles. Ducks, geese, and the occasional bald eagle can be spotted here.
The trail then moves away from the creek for a short span until it goes under the bridge at Briar Chapel Parkway, where you can directly access the creek. Just beyond this point is the northern trailhead which connects with both the
Copperhead Trail and Bennet Mountain Trail.
Flora & Fauna
Pine and Oak forest with many varieties of birds. Turtles are often seen on warm days on logs in the water.
