Description
On street parking only. Trail begins with an ADA accessible paved path, and a dog bag station. After 100 yards the trail enters the woods and leads you to a really nice, newly installed ADA canoe and kayak launch. Before the launch there are two spur trails on the right that take you to small bank fishing access points on Turtle Lake. Launch is 300 yards from car. Quite a carry but worth it. This is one of the only public access points to the Elizabeth River in Virginia Beach. Just past the launch the paved trail ends and becomes a soft trail that meanders through the woods. Plenty of decaying trees which is great for woodpeckers. Awesome views of the Elizabeth River and Turtle Lake. Plenty of small openings that birder the lake where you can cast a pole. Return to parking the same route.
Flora & Fauna
Turtles, squirrels and plenty of birds. Especially woodpeckers, migratory waterfowl, shore birds and herons.
