Overview
This hike has one good climb before you head counterclockwise around the entirety of Green Mountain. It's a good place to hike if you're looking to sharpen your rock avoidance skills.
Description
Starting from the Alameda trailhead, get ready for a steady and immediate climb up the
Green Mountain Trail. There are several very steep sections, but you'll get all your climbing over with nearly immediately on this one good climb.
A detour onto the
Summit Loop Trail makes this hike a little longer than just the usual
Green Mountain Trail with an extra couple of miles near the summit. Catch the
Summit Loop Alternate to return to the
Green Mountain Trail and the long downhill back to the trailhead.
Much of the trail was mostly covered with baseball sized rocks the whole time, basically a mine field for hiking, so watch your footing.
Flora & Fauna
Keep your eyes open for rattlesnakes.
