Family Friendly While not very appropriate for strollers, this area provides a worthwhile experience for kids that are able to hike on their own.

Overview

Devil's Millhopper Geological State Park offers visitors an exciting look into a perfect example of a Florida sinkhole. Driven by the limestone-dominated subsurface and its tendency to dissolve under the right conditions, this sinkhole sends visitors over 120 feet down into what feels like an entirely different ecosystem: cold, damp, rainforest-like conditions and the sound of nearby birds and croaking frogs overtake the senses.

Description

Starting from the parking area, follow the signage along the boardwalk, taking time to read the interpretive displays if so inclined. Unfortunately, on the west side of the park the bridge is closed indefinitely, making completing the boardwalk as a loop undoable.

Flora & Fauna

While one can expect the area's common wildlife here, the Fauna of Honor in this park are what's buried in the ground: Over time, fossilized remains have been found in the sinkhole, leading to scientific research efforts in the area.
