Overview

Enjoy the view of erupting lava from the top of Stromboli Volcano. Views at sunset and at night are especially spectacular.

Description

You'll need to have a guide to hike Stromboli, so make sure you plan ahead before heading here.

You'll leave from town, hiking out the edge of town via roads, allys and paths. Once, you leave the houses behind, you'll wind up the forested hillside. The black dirt and ash underfoot soften as you escape the trees and are met with your first views of the area below. There is a brief lull in the climb but it starts back up in earnest as you gain the summit.

There are three craters that actively erupt so you have plenty of opportunities to witness a live eruption.

After the light show, head back down the crater, either the way you came or down the frontside to make a loop.
