Description
From the fire tower, head east and the trail soon crosses over the gravel road where the trail gradually descends into a valley. The trail has some water erosion, but is wide enough to hike alongside. A few creek crossings down in the valley can be challenging after a heavy rain. The trail occasionally meanders part ways up the side of the hill and affords some nice elevated views of the creek below. Eventually the trail rises up and weaves through an old pine grove before meeting with the
Foxy Hollow Trail about 1 mile from the trailhead. Continuing south on the fire tower trail, you'll cross another gravel road, and then arrive at another fork in the trail in about 1.3 miles. The fork to the right (southwest) will lead you to the campground. The fork to the left (southeast) continues down into another valley where the trail meets the
Twin Lakes Trail. Just before meeting the
Twin Lakes Trail is a wide, shallow creek crossing that may lead to wet feet if unable to find enough stepping stones.
The trail is well marked with red rectangular blazes.
