This wide, level trail is easy to navigate and can be trimmed into an out-and-back hike of any length.
Overview
The
Bozeman Creek Trail #454 extends over 10 miles up Sourdough Canyon, into the mountains just south of Bozeman. The flat, easy trail can be used for a long 18-plus mile day all the way to Mystic Lake, for a mellow out-and-back day hike or base run, or for a short family outing.
Description
From Bozeman, head south to Sourdough Canyon Road. Drive about a mile down the road which will end at a gated trailhead with abundant parking off to either side. Because it's an old logging road,
Bozeman Creek Trail #454 is wide and level as it follows Bozeman Creek up Sourdough Canyon.
Because it's close to town and easy, this is a popular route with mountain bikers, trail runners, and hikers, so be prepared to encounter other trail users along the way. This route is great for any season—it's mostly shaded and has water access making it an excellent summer hike, and it gets groomed and packed out when snowy making it a good option for a winter hike.
