Description
This trail begins along side the northern terminus of the
Boar's Nest Trail #518 so the parking area may become congested. The beginning portion is quite easy traveling along an old jeep trail until it crosses the south prong of Red Creek for the first time. On the other side of the creek, turn left to continue on the trail for a short distance until it crosses the south prong again. In periods of snow melt or high rain, these crossings may be difficult.
After the second crossing, the trail continues to ascend until it crosses a forest road. On the other side of the forest road, the trail ascends steeply for just a few feet. As you hike, you'll pass a number of established camping sites on your right. This part of the trail becomes muddy in the spring and remains so throughout the summer. It is very flat and easy to hike. Some portions have wooden walkways built over the wetlands that are part of the unique sites to be seen on this trail. Towards the eastern terminus, there will be some really beautiful and interesting rock formations. Enjoy!
Flora & Fauna
Mountain Laurel and Rhododendron.
