Need to Know
A good sized dirt parking lot for 15-20 cars. No restroom facilities are available at the trailhead.
Description
The trail was in good condition with lots of blazes to keep you on track. Seems to be moderately trafficked based on the trail conditions which maintain it well and makes it easy to follow. One could get by with sneakers on this dirt/rock trail.
To get to the Purple Trail, you'll need to go to the end of either the Red or White Trail. Once on the Purple Trail, you'll see plenty of spruce and birch trees. You'll pass by a brook and power lines near the intersection with the
Red Trail. I enjoyed this trail, and while it is an out and back, you can easily make it a loop by taking the Purple and White Trail. Racebrook Tract has 4 blazed trails and I enjoyed it so much I decided to go around again and ventured onto some of the smaller connecting trails.
Permitted activities include hiking, cross country skiing, and bicycling.
Flora & Fauna
Red and white oak, pine-oak, large, white and Norway spruce, and birch trees. Lots of small birds can be found along the trail as well as amphibians near the brook.
