Need to Know

A fully serviced chalet is open during ski season and snowshoe trail passes are required. There is no fee for off season use, although donations are appreciated. The trail is worthwhile in the summer, and is accessed by a marked trail from Chaulk's Connector.

Description

The trail branches off E1 rising briefly. It meanders through a patchy young forest, climbing a bit steeply in places. There is a stream to cross just before the cliff. When firmly frozen and snow covered it is not an obstacle but early in the season it can be a hazard. The lack of a bridge also prevents an otherwise good trail from being recommended for off season use.

Where the trail meets the cliff, turn left onto a pleasant path through nicely spaced trembling aspen and spruce. Notice signs indicating a trail on the right leading to the first knoll. It's a good summer trail accessed by a summer route marked off Chaulk's Run. The trail passes the turn to E4 just as it begins to cross an open expanse along the escarpment carved by the brook. At a patch of mature spruce, pass the intersection with E3, cross the brook which is narrow at this point, and follow the flagged trail to Aspen Lookout. A short climb achieves a good height with great views.

Flora & Fauna

In winter, only trees are evident but the path along the base of the cliff is one of the best places in summer to view wildflowers and ferns. Follow a marked trail leading from Chaulk's Run. On the first knoll indicated with a sign, find a rare bear berry patch.
