Need to Know
This is just five minutes from the Aurora Municipal Center and the CentreTech Campus.
Description
The trail starts at a collection of historic houses and continues on over a bridge that crosses West Toll Gate Creek before continuing on past a round barn. Next, pass by a functioning Denver Urban Gardens test site on the left, and a cottonwood forest peppered by black-tailed prairie dog mounds. Fittingly, red-tailed hawks can be seen soaring above this wide-open expanse that continue on toward the restored schoolhouse. Finally, reach 1st Avenue at the turnaround point at the end of the route.
Flora & Fauna
One can expect to see cottonwood trees to the east near the creek while a small prairie ecosystem exists to the west that butts up against the farm site. Most notably, prairie dogs and red-tailed hawks can be found along and above the trail with other birds perched in the branches of the trees to the east.
