Description

This hike starts from a small circular pull-out on the north side of Highway 145 and goes nearly straight up to the ridge above the valley.

The first mile of the trail is well-shaded under ponderosa and aspen. Further up is more exposed because of fire damage to the trees, so can be hot. The trail is always easy to see, but can be overgrown with thorny plants at times. Be aware— there is often evidence of black bears.

Once at the top of the ridge, there are views of the valley from large rock cliffs that make a good spot for a picnic.
