This trail is in wilderness and requires registration at the trailhead
Description
This trail is short, but you'll have to climb over 2,500 feet and over 3.5 miles along the
West Fork Foss Trail #1064 to get to the beginning of it. The intersection with
West Fork Foss Trail #1064 is somewhat clear as there are two signs (a little high up) on a large tree. The top one says "No Camp Fires" and the bottom "Malachite Lake" with an arrow.
The trail heads in the opposite direction of
West Fork Foss Trail #1064, and very quickly begins to climb up towards Malachite Lake. You'll ascend about 150 feet in only about 500 feet, but this steep section is well worth the fantastic views at the top. The trail only follows the bank of the lake a short ways, but the log dam and shore are definitely worth spending some time at.
Copper Lake is only another 0.3 flat miles along
West Fork Foss Trail #1064 from the beginning of Malachite Lake Trail so be sure to check it out too if you've come all this way.
