Family Friendly Although steep for the smallest hikers, it is a safe hike with cottontail rabbits and horny toads.

Description

A red gate 1.5 miles from the peak marks the trailhead and prevents bikes and motorized vehicles from access. The trail curves along the western foot of Sugarloaf until it switchbacks to the begin the ascent. The ascent is 0.9 miles from base to summit along switchbacks that offer no shade but decent views.

The rocky trail moves between granite and basalt in the climb up the cone shaped peak. Best done in morning or evening to avoid full sun, this hike offers the opportunity to see cotton tail rabbits, horny toads, and an occasional coyote. Beware of coyote scat in the trail at lower elevations. This peak is technically part of the Pah Rah Range and although somewhat unspectacular, it is a quick summit and fun.

Flora & Fauna
