Description
Starting at Big Meadows, this trail gains significant elevation as it enters Jennie Lakes Wilderness. Enjoy the beautiful Weaver Lake and views north into Sequoia National Forest.
From the parking lot, the trail stays almost flat for about half a mile before it ascends about 2,000 feet. Cross a few small creeks and pass the cutoff to the Fox Meadows trailhead at 1.5 miles. Head through sequoias and reach the junction with the
Jennie Lake Trail at 1.9 miles. Continue straight here and keep ascending. At 3.1 miles, the trail splits. Weaver Lake is 0.2 miles to the right, this trail continue to the left.
Top out at 4.2 miles as you surround Shell Mountain. You can already get glimpse of the trail on the other side of the valley. Make your way down to Boulder Creek through several switchbacks. Cross the three arms of Boulder Creek at around 6 miles. Then ascend again to 9,000 feet on the eastern side of the valley. At 7 miles, the trail bends east. At its highest point at 7.6 miles,
JO Pass Trail branches off to the right. Continue straight ahead and follow the trail north as it descends to Rowell Meadow. Reach
Sugarloaf Entrance at 8.8 miles.
