Need to Know

Great restaurants and ice cream at The Veranda. Also, there is parking about 0.75 mile down the parkway. Take a left on Catullo Run and the lot is on the right.

Description

From The Veranda parking lot, the trail roughly parallels Briar Chapel Parkway, though you'll slowly climb a grade that rises above the road, giving you some nice views. Then the trail drops down to a long, winding bridge across Pokeberry Creek, where beaver have impounded the water and provided a habitat for birds, turtles, and frogs. The trail continues to follow Pokeberry Creek until it reaches Great Ridge Parkway, where there are a few parking spaces.

Either double back, or hike through the neighborhood and pick up another trail to loop back. See the map here.

Flora & Fauna

Trail is basically a bog next to a busy road. The BriarChapel development and auto traffic associated with it is the main detriment.
