Overview
Starting in the suburbs, you climb through grassland to the rounded peak of Mission Point, with 270-degree views of the city and nearby hills.
Description
Start at the end of Neon Way. The trail is straightforward fire road that climbs steadily up the hill. Good views are available from much of the trail, if you'd like something a little shorter. Near the top a segment of the fire road has been closed off for the security of the adjacent gas field; there is a singletrack with switchbacks to the right that replaces it. After reaching the "Three Trees" - everybody calls it that, except that there are actually four - continue to the right on the fire road, looping around the peak, until you reach a hairpin spur to the left that leads to the top.
Return the way you came.
There is little shade, so this is best as a winter, spring, or night hike. It makes an excellent night hike, especially under a full moon.
Flora & Fauna
Grass, some kind of squash/gourd, oaks, mustard, sunflowers, rabbits, lizards, and deer can all be found here.
