Need to Know
This trail is well established and marked but be aware that it can become unmaintained, especially in the summer when grasses and weeds grow quickly and in the winter when there is snow.
Description
This trail is easily accessed from Cross Street next to the old fire department in downtown Canton, ME or from the snowmobile parking area along Route 140. The trail is singletrack through the flood plain of Whitney Brook. One will be treated to soft surfaces and swooping turns through pine and oak forest and fields along the way.
A short section of the trail uses Route 140 to cross a stream. There are other short spurs and loops that will reconnect with the main trail. The Whitney
Brook Trail can be combined with ITS-89 (the old railroad grade) heading southwest to make a loop.
The trail is open year round and is a nice escape from snowmobiles for the adventurous snow hiker or cross-country skier.
