Need to Know

The Rim Trail is located in Stevens Creek County Park, managed by Santa Clara County Parks. The park is open from 8 am - sunset year round. For certain parking areas, there is a fee, so make sure that you pay your fee or have your pass in your window.

Description

The Rim Trail in Stevens Creek County Park is a multi-use trail that leads from the Chestnut Picnic Area to the area below Stevens Creek Reservoir where the Stevens Creek/Tony Look Trail and Coyote Trail meet. The trail starts at the back of the parking area and immediately breaks to the left and climbs uphill steeply. The trail is wide at this point and is mainly a dirt/grass trail that approaches Stevens Canyon Road, where you can hear the cars passing by above you.

The trail crosses the road that leads to the parking area and you are presented with a split. You can turn to the right and climb uphill close to Stevens Canyon Road again, or continue straight ahead on a flat trail. If you go straight, the trail meanders through the trees, and then drops to the left and narrows onto a singletrack that approaches the creek bed. The trail descends the hillside above a creek before climbing up the hillside.

Around 0.6 miles, the trail meets up with a road that runs to the buildings below the reservoir. The trail transforms from a dirt trail to a wide gravel road and descends to where the water pours out of the reservoir. Hike past the buildings and approach the spillway where a sign points to the left where the trail is.

The trail becomes a single wide dirt track and climbs quickly up to where the Stevens Creek Canyon/Tony Look Trail intersects with it. From here, you can follow the Stevens Creek Canyon/Tony Look Trail back to a road that leads back to the parking area or you can retrace your steps back to the parking lot.
