Family Friendly A not too long or difficult trail, with nice views.

Do not venture beyond the far side of the bridge.

Description

Gallery Gorge Track is an easy canopy covered trail that starts from Franz Josef Waiau township where all the lodging is. At the start, it briefly parallels the Tartare Tunnels Track before splitting off to the right, heading south.

It doesn't have the fantastic views of the Franz Josef Glacier Valley Track but in light rain, the canopy provides enough cover to stretch one's legs without getting too wet. The trail ends at the historical Callery Gorge suspension bridge, at last affording a stunning view of the grayish glacial fed Callery River.

It appears that the trail once continued beyond the Callery River but there is a firm warning on the far side of the bridge not to go further.
