Description
Braille Trail climbs through the redwood forest, from
Hihn's Mill Road to a high ridge and
Ridge Trail. Braille Trail is typically part of longer hikes in this area. To get to Braille Trail from the parking area on Highland Way, take
Hihn's Mill Road for 3.3 miles. After passing the 3.25 mile post on
Hihn's Mill Road, there is a small sign warning one about a trail crossing, and just after this sign, Braille Trail is on the left. There is no actual sign marking Braille Trail itself.
After turning left onto Braille Trail, the trail begins to climb. This narrow trail twists and turns as it climbs to its endpoint on the high ridge. The climb is broken up into short sections that are flat, and that go uphill, steeply in some places. The entire trail is in the redwood forest, although towards the top, oaks, manzanita, and some firs are mixed in. The vegetation is dense along the trail, but not dense enough to prevent sunshine from seeping through.
Braille Trail ends on the high ridge, at the
Ridge Trail 2.0 mile mark.
