The trailhead for the Yellow Trail can be found about a third of the way down the Red Trail if you are heading west. The park has good way-finding signs, and the trails are well blazed. The trail begins with a short, steep climb up a loose dirt singletrack trail.

Once at the top, the trail is narrow and runs along a sometimes steep drop-off. The views of Lake Roland are beautiful in every season, so be sure to stop and snap a few pictures. It definitely doesn’t feel like you are close to downtown Baltimore. You'll come to a junction of the Yellow Trail, Red Trail, and Red Alternate Trail. It is well-blazed, so head toward the yellow blaze in a large opening that is often a mud pit and has a trail stump walk-around.

From this point, the trail surface is hard packed dirt with plenty of roots and rocks until you reach the junction with the Green Trail. As you continue, it's primarily made up of rock piles and boulders that requires a bit of scrambling. It is not a long trail, but it can be challenging if the water is running high. The trail can get standing water on it which becomes ice in the winter. This makes for often slippery conditions. You'll cross the White Trail junction and the Purple Trail junction. After that point, the trail returns to hard rocky surface through the woods until it ends when it hits the boundary road.
