Family Friendly The short trail is nicely graded with many opportunities to watch wildlife.

Overview

The route loops through a restored wetland on a flat, wide, gravel trail. The area is very popular among birders, as it is home to over 200 species of birds.

Description

The route starts at the Union Bay Natural Area parking lot. The trail follows Wahkiakum Lane before taking a quick left on the Yarrow Point Trail.

Yarrow Point presents great views of Lake Washington in front of Mount Rainier. Watch birds swimming in the lake and the many ponds nearby. The loop continues around to intersect Wahkiakum Lane. Take a right and head back to the parking lot.

History & Background

The restoration of the wetland began in 2000 after remaining vacant for many years. Many pipes, used to water the newly planted native plants, can been seen along the way.
