Description

The start of this trail begins as enjoyable section of singletrack. From the Barker Lane parking area, it travels east to Hartman Park. The first few miles are a mix of climbs and descents with occasional sections of road. The trail overlaps the Red Trail through Hartman Park before splitting at an intersection shortly after Turtle Rock. As it leaves the park, it turns north for another climb into the Nehantic State Forest - East Lyme Block.

A nice descent brings the trail down to a parking area at the end of Holmes Road around mile 5.5. The casual descent continues along forest roads for 1.5 miles to an intersection with Grassy Hill Road. Turn right on the road and look for the Richard H. Goodwin Trail to continue on the other side. The road continues through the forest and passes the occasional pond as the landscape undulates gentle up and down.

At the 10.25 mile mark, the trail makes a sharp turn to the southeast to follow a forest road down into a depression before climbing up the other side. Where it turns to the left, it travels across and then down a knoll to pass Darrow Pond and arrive at the parking area at the end.
