“After a tough climb, pleasant singletrack winds among the scrub bushes on top of the mesa.

Bison range freely throughout the park so you might encounter them on any of the trails. Keep at least 50 yards from them to avoid being charged (by the bison or the park police).
Description
From the Wild Horse Trail, you'll climb out of the Little Red River Valley on a really steep, rocky and somewhat rutted climb. It's over soon though and there is some narrow but otherwise easy singletrack as the payoff. Mesa Trail runs close to the canyon rim although you wouldn't know it because there isn't much of a view. Mesa Trail is a lollipop, so it takes you back to the start.
You can also take the Mesa Spur Trail over to Lower Canyon Trail to make a big loop. Mesa Spur Trail does have some great views near the edge of the cliff, but the descent to Lower Canyon Trail is quite steep.
