Description

A Loop begins at the trailhead on the Blackjack campground road. Upon entering the trailhead, a faded rock marker indicates A Loop beginning to the right. Note that EZ Loop begins to the left, and returns on the middle trail.

A Loop descends gentle switchbacks for about 0.5 miles before leveling off. Another series of wide switchbacks ascends gradually to a left turn built with a small retaining wall before the trail heads over some iron rocks to a plateau with an old balance beam. To the right, beyond the beam is an exit trail, to the Blackjack campground if needed.

Continue over a loose rock section before another descent on wide switchbacks and a few rougher sections. Cross a small bridge followed by some more rooty sections separated by smooth trail. A usually-dry creek crossing pops up before the trail reaches the intersection with B Loop. At the intersection, turn right to return to the Blackjack campground road directly across from the trailhead, or turn left to continue on B Loop.
