Visitors to Pico do Inficionado must be accompanied by an accredited guide of the RPPN of Caraça. This trail is displayed for information only and you'll still need to travel with a guide.

Description

To get to the trailhead, follow the Gruta da Bocaina until it splits toward the Bocaina Waterfall. This stretch is flat, wide, and well-marked (this is the same route that heads to the waterfall).

Past the fork, the trail becomes very steep and travels down a staircase where you'll have to navigate some steps and erosion. Continuing along the slope, the route is interspersed with plateaus, and the final climb is made by a short and steep climb.

The top is very interesting, grand, irregular, and cut by huge cracks. There is the gigantic Centenary Grotto, the Devil's Throat and the Tip of the Air, all with access from the top of the peak.

There is water by the steepest path in at least three points beyond the summit. But in the driest period of the year, the water from the ridge usually dries up. The camp at the top is small and squeezed between rocks, and is currently limited to 10 people at a time.

From the top, it is possible to see all the other six great Peaks of Caraça, the valley below, and the historic site. Even further int he distance are sights like Itacolomi in Ouro Preto, Itabirito, Serra da Piedade and even the toothpick of Belvedere in BH.

Exercise caution when hiking along the summit because there are smaller cracks and gaps on all sides!
