Description

This trail is often done as part of a loop. It is good in both directions, but commonly done counter clockwise. Big Hollow Trail is wide, steep, and relatively unobstructed. Near the top, thanks to a recent timber sale, you'll have a couple options to finish your climb to Hone Quarry Ridge and they will all get you to the top.

At the top, there is a 3-way intersection, Hone Quarry Ridge which leads to Mines Run Trail continues to ascend Shenandoah Mountain to the west while Heartbreak Trail (435A) continues to the east to return you from whence you came.

Big Hollow was a great experience. I did it as a loop with the Heartbreak and Hone Quarry Ridge trails. All were beautiful and snowy. 2mi
