Description
The Terrell Trail at Lake Guntersville State Park is one of the park's more challenging trails. Although it has a relatively smooth surface, it has a steep climb in each direction.
The trail starts on the park road after taking a left off of the main entrance road. The trail will be on your left as you head up the road, although it crosses the road for a short distance to a connector trail between the
Moonshine Trail and Cascade Trail.
A relatively level section along a streambed begins the trail, but it will soon climb up Graveyard Hill. There will be a fork after about 0.25 mile. While both forks are technically part of the Terrell Trail, the left fork is a little bit easier and is the one included on this map. (The right fork is a steeper climb.)
Continuing on the left fork, there will be a roughly 200-foot climb in about 0.35 mile. The trail will then rejoin the right fork and continue for another 0.25 mile along the ridgeline as a relatively easy singletrack before it forks again. This section is unique in that some damage from the April 2011 storms knocked down a lot of trees, but the trail has been cleared.
Again, the left fork is more doable and not as steep as the right fork. The left fork is included in the map. The trail will continue for about 0.33 mile, along rolling singletrack, and then descend to the Kings Chapel Cemetery and the
Kings Chapel Trail.
