Description

From the end of Oil Well Trail, turn right on FS Trail #203, following Wapiti Ridge which divides Sunlight and Carrot Basins. There is a short climb to reach an overlook of Lomna Lake, a great place to take a break and savor the view of the Taylor-Hilgard peaks.

The end of this ridge is also known as Pika Point. From here the descent begins, which is at times steep and loose from dirt bike traffic.

There is a boggy area about halfway through the descent which has been quite degraded by motocross and other travelers taking progressive detours. Try to cross in a way which doesn't widen the trail. This trail, along with many others in the area, is cleared of downed trees primarily by motocross riders, and respectful shared use is the culture here.
