Description

Follow the yellow blazes! The Woodland Trail connects Skyland Trail and Clark Trail to provide a perfect way to make an extended loop of many Cardigan Range trails before returning to the AMC Cardigan Lodge. An easy route on a seldom-used trail, this one crosses a couple streams including an old beaver pond and meadow. As you get past the old beaver pond, the trail proceeds along an old road until it joins Clark Trail.

If hiking the other direction, the sign at the Skyland Trail junction does not indicate proper distance, which is 3.2 miles back to the lodge. If you have the time, circle down from the summit of Cardigan via Skyland Trail and Woodland Trail—you'll not be disappointed.

Flora & Fauna

Mixed hardwood and softwood forests abound in this area.
