Description

Deer Island is a one-mile hike down to the Northwest River from the north end of the park. You can begin at the Deer Island Trailhead which is reached from the campground road; or you can start hiking down Indian Creek Trail from the trailhead behind the activity building, scale some small hills, cross the park's main bridge, and meet Deer Island there, turning left to continue down the trail to the river.

About a half a mile or so down the trail is the Dominion Power bridge which crosses the park's waterway. At the end, the trail meets the Shuttle Trail and leads to the Northwest River.

Flora & Fauna

Turtles, deer, woodpeckers, snakes.

Deer Island is one of my favorite trails at this park. Packed dirt suitable for both hiking and biking. Nice view of the waterway from the bridge. 1mi — 0h 20m
