The temperature and condition of the hot springs at the end of the trail can vary significantly, so use caution before entering.

Need to Know

Re-opened after the December 2017 the Thomas Fire Closure. Use caution around loose soils, rolling rocks, and unstable portions of the trails. USFS staff continue to work with local groups and partner organizations to repair damaged sections of trails. Check USFS website for the most up-to-date information.

Description

Starting from the trailhead for the Hot Springs Trail off of Mountain Dr., the path will steadily climb up a forested stretch of land that is surrounded by numerous private residences. 1/4 of a mile into the trail, you'll be removed from all of the houses, and the trail bends to the right to enter the canyon just before crossing Hot Springs Creek. Then, you'll join up with a dirt road that climbs up the canyon along the east wall.

After 1 mile on trail, you'll come to a junction where the left turn takes you on a power-line road that goes over Cold Spring Canyon. Stay to the right, following the trail for another 1/4 of a mile, and you'll arrive at the ruins of the Montecito Hot Springs Club, as well as the hot pools themselves. At this point, the Hot Springs Trail ends and you can return along the same route or link up with other trails in the area to extend your hike.
