Avoid rainy days. Cliff scrambling will get dangerous. Avoid bringing a dog unless she/he is incredibly athletic and has a Help'em Up type harness that you can help with both front and the back side lifting.

Description

An eponymous trail from Suffern to Bear Mountain. Going from south to north will grant you a nice finishing place to relax at the Bear Mountain Inn. Expect a long and rocky trail with many scrambling opportunities and some challenging ups and downs the entire length of the trail. At just under 23 miles in length, the full trail is a long and strenuous undertaking, but if you don't want to hike the entire trail point to point, there are options to connect to many other trails in Harriman State Park and Bear Mountain State Park to create loop hikes.

Flora & Fauna

Deer. Snakes. Ferns. Hawks. Buzzards.

This trial is an absolute beast. I did it in an overnight from the Metro North stop at Manitou to NJ Transit at Suffern. Knees and ankles still hurt.
