Features Views

Only available during Academy visiting hours (9 a.m.-5 p.m.) if you do not have a DOD ID. During normal visiting hours, you'll need to show a standard national ID, such as a driver's license, to enter the Academy.

Description

From the Air Force Academy North Gate Blvd entrance: Continue west through the gate (you'll need to show ID at the entrance; see the restrictions below) on North Gate Blvd, which will turn into Academy Dr and turn left/south after passing the overlook area on your left. 4.2 miles after passing through the gate turn left/east into the visitor center and park.

The Academy does not allow private vehicle access to the trailhead, so you'll need to hike a short distance to it. After parking at the visitor center, hike back west across Academy Drive at the visitor center entrance and then to your right/north just a short ways to Pavilion Rd (dirt) on your left. Hike west up Pavilion Rd for 0.4 mi to the trailhead, on your left.

The trail starts off as a wide doubletrack trail that quickly narrows off into a steep singletrack for the remainder of the route. There are many large rocks that require big steps for portions of the trail, but for some it is possible to avoid. At the top, there are steep drops with some loose rock.
