Low-tide route only for the section of track between Awaroa Lodge and Awaroa Hut.

Description

This spur trail branches off of the main Abel Tasman track and provides access to the private Awaroa Lodge and the other “glamping” options. The southeastern portion of the track can still be used to access the lodge regardless of the tide, but the section between Awaroa Lodge and Awaroa hut/campsite is highly dependent on the tide and should only be attempted at low tide as it follows along the estuary. The change in tide in the estuary is quite pronounced as you may notice what appear to be hopelessly beached boats at low tide. However, come back in 6 hours and these boats will be merrily bobbing in plenty of water, evidence of why you should not attempt the crossing at high tide.

Awaroa Lodge is a private lodge not operated by the DOC. It is seasonal and closed during the winter. For more information, visit the lodge's website.
