Description
Take the main fire road from the gate up the fire trail to find two entrances on the left for this singletrack which wanders all through the backwoods! There is a small parking area on Rinehart Rd (paved). Just across from Kowomu Trail Rd (dirt/gravel road), once you head up the fire trail there are pretty much 4 choices for a starting point:
1. A small off-shoot of singletrack on the right which will eventually drop you off on another fire trail approximately 1/4 mile down Rinehart Rd. If you finish there you can loop back to the small parking area by hiking a short stint on the road.
2. The first off shoot of singletrack on the left; just head in and wander.
3. Farther up the hill/ fire trail, you'll see the second off-shoot of singletrack on the left; same thing, head in and wander.
4. Or you can continue all the way up the fire trail; stay to the left, hugging the trees and you'll come to a model airplane demo place (not sure when this ever gets used but it seems to be well maintained). From here you go a little bit further and can drop in the top of the singletrack on the left. Just keep going and look left; you'll eventually see them, I promise. If not, backtrack down the fire trail and find one of the other entrances.
There were a few blue and or purple blazes back here, but nothing consistent. It is hard to get lost back here as all the trails seem to end up back on the main fire trail eventually.
I knew some trail existed back here, but I didn't know there was at least 8+ miles of trail here! This is by no means a comprehensive map, but I wanted to map this so that others may have the chance to explore and have a nice hour or two in the woods of Carroll County!
Just use the
Hiking Project mobile app and you can follow where you are on the trails with your phone.
