Description

From SH6 just south of the town of Fox Glacier, hikers can access the start of the Te Weheka Fox Glacier Cycle/Walkway. This easy track is multi-use and is open to both hikers and bikers, so be aware of and courteous to other trail users.

From the start, the track climbs gradually up the valley, heading in and out of the woods alongside the road. At two points, you'll join the Fox Glacier Access Road, and hikers will have to hike along the edge of the road. There is a designated lane for pedestrians and cyclists at both these points, but be aware of cars and campervans as the access road can be quite busy.

While you won't have views of Fox Glacier from this track, it does head through some nice forested sections and there are some impressive views of the dramatic landscape that has been carved by the retreating glacier.
