Description

From suburban Almaden Valley, one can walk/hike to Santa Teresa County Park on the Calero Creek Trail, starting from Harry Road. Although there is no parking lot at this Harry Road trailhead, there is plenty of room to park along the side of Harry Road.

From Harry Road, the Calero Creek Trail follows Calero Creek, for its first 0.5 miles. Calero Creek is in the wooded area to the right of the trail. To the left of the trail are fields, with the Santa Teresa Hills behind the fields. About 0.5 miles from Harry Road, the Calero Creek Trail turns left and leaves Calero Creek behind.

Shortly after leaving Calero Creek behind, the Calero Creek Trail crosses Santa Teresa Creek. This crossing is not bridged, and in the winter and spring, one must hike right through the stream, getting their feet and possibly ankles wet, depending on how rainy it has been.

After crossing Santa Teresa Creek, Calero Creek Trail turns right and continues on to the Almaden Valley entrance of Santa Teresa County Park. The Santa Tersesa Hills rise to the left of the trail here. To the right of the trail are fields, with the Santa Cruz Mountains behind them, quite a picturesque view. Mt. Umunhum can be seen.

This is a great way to get to Santa Teresa County Park without having to drive (much) if one lives in Almaden Valley.
