Description
The Trail starts just across from the Persimmon Gap Visitor Center. The first third of the hike gradually gains elevation along a fairly clear wash. Like other trails in the more desertous environments of Big Bend, there is plenty of scrub brush to hinder progress if one does not pay attention.
About 1/3rd in, some climbing is required to get to east side of the trail. This section involves some easy ladder-like climbing on rocks that are fairly natural distances for human movements. Once past the climb, one can go off trail just a little and get great views back into the basin to the south and good views of Rosillos Mountain range and Chisos to the south.
The eastern side of the wash gives more desert hiking with some good views in the expanse on the Stillwell side of the park.
Flora & Fauna
Flowering plants, coyotes, javelinas.
