An ill-advised slip could lead to a very long drop into very cold water at a couple of points. Hike safe. For more information, see the USFS trail page here.

Description

Park at the Fish Creek trailhead and cross the road to attain the obvious trail. The trail is unmarked but well-defined the whole way.

After the initial close forest, the trail opens up with some large trees and little underbrush because of a recent fire. Some of the trees (still live) carry burn marks as high as 80'. At about the three-quarter mile mark, the trail rises up steeply to avoid the riverside cliffs.

Most of the trail is defined by your position of being pinned between the clean, green water of the Clackamas River on one side and the mossy basalt cliffs on your other side. The trail undulates up and down as it rises with the river as you go upstream. Along the way, you pass immense old growth cedar and Douglas fir.

Great mix of scenery. A lot of up-and-down at times but it was still enjoyable. Not great for kids because of the up and down. 8mi
