Description

Mid-Lothian Mines Park is a beautiful woodland park in the south of Richmond that is considered one of the first industrial areas in the US. The Mid-Lothian Mines hike is on the site of one of the original Virginia coal mines; this park has a few old buildings and facilities from 1830s era. The park has good informational displays along the trail and across the road. You can also head through the connector tunnel to another easy and open picturesque trail around a small man-made lake.

History & Background

One of the first coal mines in the area, Mid-Lothian Mines Park honors the area's past that represents the earliest systematic exploration of fossil fuel in Virginia.
