Mass Audubon sanctuaries do not allow jogging on our trails. This is a hiking/walking route only.

Overview

This loop traverses 45 acres of changing habitat. In the grassy meadow, you can observe red cedars, butterflies, and flickers. Beyond the meadow, pitch pine-oak woodland transitions into white and red pine forest, a favorite haunt of great horned owls. The wooded Wellington Hill is the highest point in Belmont.

Description

Head out on this clockwise loop from the visitor center going west toward the greenhouse. After two-tenths of a mile, turn left on the Red Maple Trail and take that to its southern terminus before heading west again, this time on the Highland Farm Meadow Connector toward Wellington Hill and the Highland Farm Loop Trail.

Take the loop all the way around back to the Red Maple Trail. From this point, you'll return the way you came.

There are a number of other trails in the area to explore, for more information check in at the visitor center or visit their website.
